Beauty of the Burl with Don Williams

May 8, 2022 - August 31, 2022

Beauty of the Burl is an exhibit of Adirondack Burls by guide and artist Donald Williams.

Burls are abnormalities in trees. The burl sculptures, brought to life by Williams, are carefully peeled by a small knife, and coated with varnish, enhancing their natural marbleized interior. No two are alike and they range from the size of a pea to as large as a bathtub.

Donald grew up in Northville, NY. During his life, he worked as a science teacher, school principal, and an Adirondack guide for 60 years, following in his grandfather’s footsteps. He is the author of 12 books, including his latest, Grandfather’s Tool Chest.

Founder and first president of the New York State Outdoor Guides Association.

New York Folklore’s Gallery of New York Artists is located at 129 Jay Street, Schenectady, on the Jay Street pedestrian mall. The Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10AM to 3:30PM, and Sundays 10AM to 2PM through Christmas Eve. The Gallery is closed Sundays in January and February.
