Tashi Sharzur AKA Techung

Techung began his study of Tibetan performing arts at the age of nine at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts in India. After moving to the US, he co-founded the San Francisco-based Chaksampa Tibetan Dance & Opera Company in 1989, which performed opera at various places. Between 1995 to 1997 Techung worked for the Milarepa Fund in San Francisco and organized the Tibetan Freedom Concert. Techung and his family now reside in Lake Placid, New York

He has recorded his own as well well folk music albums and has toured performing them around the world, including at Carnegei Hall and with such musicians as Patti Smith, Iggy Pop and others. Techung’s dual purpose has always have been to revive Tibetan music in the Tibetan community and to promote the rich performing tradition of his homeland to a wider audience around the world.
