Join us for Fall Spooktacular, where tradition bearer, Ana Lorena Diana will guide participants in a 45 minute workshop to create their own sugar skulls in celebration of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Premade sugar skulls and decorative frosting will be provided to participants.
Registration is required to take part in a Sugar Skull Decorating workshop. Three 45 minute workshops will be held on Oct 21st. Please call to reserve your spot and choose one of the following times. 1 pm, 2 pm, or 3 pm. Spots are limited. Please call 518-346-7008 or email info@nyfolklore.org
Ana Lorena is a longtime resident and community pillar of Amsterdam, NY having served on the board of Centro Civco and other regional organizations. Originally from Mexico, Ana Lorena continues traditional practices like making paper cempasúchil or marigold and decorating Sugar Skulls for ofrendas. She has collaborated with New York Folklore to create the annual Día de los Muertos ofrenda in our Jay Street Gallery. Día de los Muertos begins November 1st and ends November 2nd.
New York Folklore will also host an ofrenda, for Día de los Muertos. The public is encouraged to honor loved ones who have passed on by placing their photo on the ofrenda. We also invite the public to enjoy our exhibitson view in October, Mexican Cartonería: Art of Aurelia Fernández Marure
