New York Folklore is pleased to partner again with the Kids Arts Festival, a program of Schenectady’s Downtown Arts and Entertainment District.
This year, New York Folklore is sponsoring artists, Mateo Cano and Maria Puente Flores, who will be working with kids to create masks. Mask making in Mexico is a folk art activity that traditionally accompanied festivals and celebrations and was well-established, long before the colonization of Mexico. Mateo Cano and Maria Puente Flores are dancers, musicians, and artists representing the Mexican state of Veracruz.
Support for artists’ presentations at New York Folklore are supported, in part, by the Schenectady County Initiative Program and the New York State Council on the Arts.
