Services

As part of our commitment to traditional arts in New York, we provide cultural and creative workforce development for artists across the state.

What We Offer

New York Folklore provides a variety of services for folk and traditional artists, community-based organizations, and culture workers. The program provides free technical assistance for organizations and individuals.  Beginning in 1991 and with direct support from the New York State Council on the Arts, New York Folklore has provided professional development and technical assistance to artists, community-based cultural organizations, and cultural workers in the field of folk and traditional arts.

Folk and traditional arts services provided through NYSCA take the following forms:

  • The annual New York State Folk Arts Roundtable which encourages participation by artists and cultural workers
  • The New York State Folk Arts Internship program that provides funding support for graduate students, community cultural experts, and early career professionals in the field of folk and traditional arts and culture.
  • Artists as Entrepreneur Micro-Enterprise Program that works one-on-one with artists to develop themselves in the arts marketplace, with additional funding from the Capital District United Way and TD Bank.
  • Folk Artists in the Classroom pairings of trained teaching artists with classroom educators.  New York Folklore works closely with Local Learning: the National Network for Folk Arts in Education to engage teachers with folk culture.  Additional information for educators and artists can be found HERE

This program is funded by the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature.
