On July 17th and 24th D’Vonne Faulks will host a free two-part workshop on natural haircare at the Amsterdam Free Library. This workshop series will cover basic haircare and braiding. Topics will include washing, detangling, products, seasonal maintenance, and styling. Participants who attend both sessions will be entered to win a door prize filled with haircare products curated and made by D’Vonne.
This is a perfect opportunity for foster parents, parents/guardian of biracial children, and folks wanting to learn for their own hair.
About the Artist:
D’Vonne is a master of African American hair braiding and hair care. D’Vonne’s traditional knowledge came through generations of family members. She counts herself as the 7th generation of braiders in her family and is currently teaching her own daughters. Previously she braided hair at the Community Connection Clubhouse for kids, both as a volunteer and as part of New York Folklore programming. On any given day she can be found around the city, at the library, or the Clubhouse.
D’Vonne is a Support For Artist Grantee, sponsored by New York Folklore. This program is supported by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts
