SUMMARY:Young Traditions: Meet the Next Generation of Culture Bearers
DESCRIPTION:When we consider the folk arts that infuse our lives\, images of community elders\, wizened in years are often conjured. New York Folklore is proud to support this cohort and many others through programming\, trainings\, and grant writing. \nThe exhibit can viewed whenever the New York Folklore Shop and Gallery are open. New York Folklore is located at 129 Jay Street\, Schenectady\, on the Jay Street Marketplace pedestrian mall. The Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday\, 10AM to 3:30PM\, and Sundays 10AM to 2PM (April- December). Please call 518-346-7008\, email NYF at info@nyfolklore.org\, or visit our web site\, www.nyfolklore.org for additional information. \nParking in downtown Schenectady is free on Sunday\, and there is ample parking both in convenient LAZ lots\, and on the street. \nFunding is provided for this exhibit by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and Schenectady County Initiative Program.

SUMMARY:The Yellow Mountains (Huang Shan) of Anhui Province
DESCRIPTION:Zhong-Hua Lu is a recipient of an Individual Artist Grant from the New York State Council on the Arts. This grant funded the creation of a 1000-foot scroll based on the artist’s trip to the Yellow Mountains (Huang Shan) of Anhui Province in China. \nYou can read more about the artist here: https://nyfolklore.org/artist-spotlight-zhong-hua-lu/ \nThe Yellow Mountains are an extraordinary landscape for this art form because of the huge variation in form and weather conditions. Sometimes\, one mountain can appear to encompass all four seasons at once. There are 72 peaks with steep cliffs\, rivers of mist\, waterfalls\, and pines with long reaching boughs that survive harsh blizzards and cling through blizzards to the rocky mountainsides. There is a long tradition of Chinese painters traveling to the Yellow Mountains to paint this astounding  landscape from the Tang Dynasty to the Ming Dynasty\, and into the present. \nThe exhibit can be viewed whenever the New York Folklore Shop and Gallery are open. New York Folklore is located at 129 Jay Street\, Schenectady\, on the Jay Street Marketplace pedestrian mall. The Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday\, 10AM to 3:30PM\, and Sundays 10AM to 2PM (April- December). SUMMARY:Pulse of the Heart: Drums and Sacred Dream Circles
DESCRIPTION:This exhibit will feature a selection of Sacred Dream Circles and other pieces such as drums and rattles by artist Zelda Hotaling. The Sacred Dream Project was conceived in 2012  when the artist received a vision from The Creator that guided her to create the Sacred Dream Circles Project. Dream Circles resemble Dream Catchers and vary in size from three feet to fifteen feet. They are created using traditional techniques such as weaving\, leatherwork\,  metalwork and knotwork. The Sacred Dream Circles are presented as an art form as well as an energetic healing medium to facilitate meditation. Each Dream Circle carries a deep symbolism. However\, each viewer interprets the Circles based on their experience and spirituality\, helping them to heal in ways which are needed for them. \nZelda Hotaling was raised under the influence of the Haudenosaunee Native American Culture. Her family resides on the Kahnawaka Mohawk reservation in Canada.
