Oral History Collection & Ethnographic Documentation Services

Staff of the New York Folklore Society is available to provide short-term instructional workshops on the theories and techniques of collecting oral histories and ethnographic documentation.

Topics offered include:

♦ how to organize and manage a collecting project,

♦ recruitment and training of volunteers, and

♦ fieldwork methodologies.

Workshop fees begin at $500 for a one day workshop.

Workshops are tailored specifically for each requesting organization.

Ellen McHale has over thirty years of fieldwork experience. She is an approved trainer for the Veterans’ History Project of the Library of Congress and has served as a “best practices” consultant for VHP. She has provided numerous oral history collecting workshops for the Documentary Heritage Program of the New York State Archives, for Museumwise, and for library service organizations throughout New York State.
